Born in Shanghai, China, pianist Selene Hongni Wu began studying piano when she was five years old. She attended Shanghai Music Elementary School attached to Shanghai Conservatory of Music at age 9, Studied with Steinway artist Christopher Zhong. Selene has won many top prizes of international competitions, including St. Andrews International Piano Concerto Competition (Canada), the 10th International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition (Vienna), 2017-2018 MTNA steinway young artist piano competition (USA) and the Walled The City International Piano Competition (UK). As an active soloist and chamber musician, she has performed in Shanghai, Vienna, Northern Ireland, Taiwan, Canada and United States.

As a chamber musician, Selene has worked with many great artists, such as Brentano Quartet, Indianapolis Quartet. She’s a member of saxophone trio and piano trio. She’s also very experienced with opera and singers. In Baltimore Maryland area, she serves as opera pianist/accompanist for Peabody Opera and Peabody Preparatory.

During COVID-19 quarantine time, Selene has founded Unisson LLC, to give music educators and students a online platform to share performance together and support local musicians. The project includes the 1st Joy Music online summer music festival and 12 weeks of YouTube weekly online concert series.

Selene is currently a doctoral candidacy in Arizona State University under Dr. Cathal Breslin studio with teaching assistantship. She receives her BM from East Tennessee State University with Dr. Chih-long Hu, and MM from Peabody Conservatory with Marian Hahn.
