 Katelyn Gabler

1st Prize of Category 4

Katelyn Gabler, hailing from Hanover, PA, has been immersed in the arts from a young age, initially drawn to theatre and dance. Encouraged by her 4th-grade music teacher, Katelyn later discovered a deep passion for singing, leading her to explore various instruments, including the banjo, guitar, piano, ukulele, electric bass, and clarinet.

During her high school years, Katelyn embarked on a more focused musical path. She began private vocal lessons with Sommer Garner in York, PA, and Tara Sarvarino at Messiah University. She also studied banjo with Tom Marshall in Gettysburg, PA, and the acclaimed 2013 IBMA winner and Grammy-nominated artist Mike Munford in New Freedom, PA. Her guitar training was under Tom Marshall and Mike Orenzoff in Hanover, PA.

In 2023, Katelyn graduated from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) with a BM in Vocal Performance, minoring in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots Music Studies. Her college years were rich with performances in groups like the ETSU Chorale, ETSU Belles Choir, ETSU Opera Workshop, the ETSU Gospel Choir, The Sunny Side Gals (an all-female bluegrass band), and the ETSU Celtic Band. She honed her skills in voice under Sun-Joo Oh, piano with Jerilyn Paolini, and banjo with Jerry Keys.

Looking ahead, Katelyn is set to continue her musical education at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she will pursue her master's degree in Vocal Studies starting in the fall of 2024.
