Ethan Thomas Smith is a rising star in the world of classical music known for his captivating performances and mature tone. From an early age, Ethan displayed exceptional musical talent, drawing inspiration from church hymns, classical composers, and legendary opera singers.
He began his musical journey at age seven when he joined an after-school choir, discovering a love for singing and performing. At ten, he became a member of the Grand Rapids Men and Boys Chorus, where he trained with choral conductors from around the world. Through this ensemble, Ethan learned how to read music and shape vocal tone with precision. His angelic soprano voice quickly captured the attention of audiences. After his voice matured and transitioned to tenor, he moved on from the chorus and continued his vocal development.
In 2021, Ethan joined the Grand Rapids Youth Chorus (GRYC), where he has continued to grow as a vocalist for the past three years. He has performed at DeVos Performance Hall alongside the Grand Rapids Symphony for events such as their Holiday Pops and Star Wars concert series. His time with GRYC also included a tour of Ireland, where he sang in cathedrals across the country, including the iconic Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. Through these experiences, Ethan has developed skills in harmony, stage presence, and ensemble performance, as well as strong bonds with fellow singers who have become like a second family.
In addition to his ensemble work, Ethan has frequently served as a cantor at his church, offering his voice for liturgical services and special occasions. He has also performed at funerals, offering comfort through music during times of grief. In 2022 and 2023, he was invited to sing as a guest soloist at a local church, where he had the opportunity to perform "The Prayer.”
Ethan is a student at Wyoming High School, where he pursues a rigorous academic and musical education. Under the guidance of a dedicated vocal coach, he continues to refine his technique and broaden his repertoire. He actively participates in school choirs and recitals, regularly performing solo works.
Motivated by a deep passion for music and a desire to connect with others, Ethan believes in the power of music to inspire, uplift, and unite. Through each performance, he strives to move his audience emotionally and artistically. As he continues to develop as a vocalist, Ethan is committed to seeking new opportunities, expanding his skills, and sharing his voice with a wider audience.
