Nathan Cox

Biography

Cellist Nathan Cox seeks to create moments of meaning, communion, and catharsis through deeply expressive musical experiences. He is currently a master’s degree cello student on scholarship at The Juilliard School, where he studies with Zvi Plesser and Zlatomir Fung and serves as principal cellist.

Raised in a musical household, Nathan studied violin, piano, cello, and organ from an early age. In 2014, he began attending The Colburn School, and in 2023 he graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University. He enrolled at BYU at age sixteen on full scholarship, accompanied fellow musicians extensively on the piano, and won the concerto competition twice.

An experienced soloist, Nathan gave his first concerto performance with orchestra in 2015 and has since appeared frequently as a soloist. Highlights include winning the 2023 concerto competition at the Aspen Music Festival and School. He has received full scholarships to both Aspen and the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival.

Nathan is a member of the Aspen Grove Piano Trio with Caroline and Tanner Jorden, and together they won the 2024 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music National Competition. As a freelance musician, he records and improvises with pop artists, performs and arranges sacred, classical, and Broadway repertoire in churches and community centers, accompanies ballet classes on piano, and maintains a private teaching studio in cello and piano.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Nathan is an Armenian translator. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Aurora, and their guinea pig, Oat.
