Born in Boston, Norman Lu began playing piano at age of four and has since charmed audiences and judges alike with his musical talents. Norman is currently studying with Alexander Korsantia and Ya-Fei Chuang at New England Conservatory Prep School. He has been fortunate to participate in many masterclasses with Tamas Ungar, Robert Levin, Pascal Nemirovski, Victor Rosenbaum, HaeSun Paik, Max Levinson and others.

Noman has been honored to win top prizes from many regional and international competitions. Most recently, Norman was awarded 1st Place for the state of Massachusetts in the 2022 MTNA Piano Competition and is currently in the process of representing the state at the divisional level. As a performer at the 2022 PianoTexas International Festival & Academy, Norman won the Junior Concerto Competition that earned him the honor to perform with Las Colinas Orchestra at the Van Cliburn Concert Hall in Fort Worth. During the same year, he participated in the Salzburg Mozarteum University Summer Academy and was awarded the opportunity to perform at the final concert of the festival. In previous years, Norman was awarded First Prize in both the Solo and Concerto categories of Division I (ages 10-18) in the 2021 William Knabe International Piano Competition; Grand Prize in the 2020 XI Hartford Chopin International Piano Competition; First Prize in the 2020 Radda Rise International Piano Competition; Bronze Medal in the 2020 Steinway National Virtual Piano Competition; and many other prizes in local competitions. 

Norman enjoys sharing his music in recitals and concerts at venues throughout the world and has performed at the Solitär Uni Mozarteum, Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Williams Hall at New England Conservatory, PepsiCo Recital Hall at Texas Christian University, and Earl & Darielle Linehan Concert Hall at UMBC. As a winner of the 2019 Kaufman Competition, Norman also appeared in the award ceremony concert broadcasted by NYC classical radio station WQXR. In December 2020, he was featured on Steinway’s global media channels for their holiday promotions. 

Norman has been an active member of the New England Conservatory Prep Chamber Music study, and he enjoys collaborating with other musicians. His trio group was selected to perform at the year-end chamber showcase concert in 2021 and 2022. Recently, he has been invited to participate in the Chamber Music Intensive Piano Trio Seminar.  

In his time away from the piano, Norman enjoys reading, researching music history, studying math and chemistry, and preparing for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad.
