Biography

Born in Shenyang, China in 2008, violinist Junyi Wang began his musical training at the age of six with Wang Guan. At twelve, he was admitted to the Affiliated Music School of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, where he distinguished himself both academically and artistically, earning multiple scholarships and developing a strong technical and musical foundation.

Since relocating to Canada, Junyi has continued to expand his musical education. He is currently a student in the Art Unionville program at Unionville High School, where he serves as concertmaster of both the school orchestra and AU Strings. In 2024, he was admitted to the Senior Strings program at The Royal Conservatory of Music Taylor Academy, studying under Atis Bankas. That same year, Junyi successfully auditioned for the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra for the 2024–2025 season.

Junyi has been recognized in numerous national and international competitions. His recent awards include First Prize in the Violin Young Artist Class at the CCC Toronto International Music Festival (2025), the Gold Prize and “Rising Star” Award at the 3rd National Youth Open Competition for Young Musicians in China (2025), and First Prize in the preliminary round of the Opus Artis Paris International Music Competition (2024). Additional distinctions include the First Absolute Prize at the Musicarte Competition (2024), the Gold Prize at the 12th Hong Kong International Violin Competition (2022), and First Prize at the Ukraine ART & MORE International Music Competition (Strings, Professional Group C) in 2021.

As an active young performer, Junyi has appeared in recitals and festivals both in China and internationally. In 2023, Junyi presented his first full solo recital, the Wang Junyi Violin Recital, at the Concert Hall of the Middle School Affiliated to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. In 2025, he attended the Wiener Meisterkurse at the European Music Institute Vienna for a masterclass with David Frühwirth, as well as the Allegro Vivo Summer Academy in Horn, Austria, where he studied with Professor Fheodoroff.
