Michael Abimanyu Kaeng

Michael Abimanyu Kaeng was born in Jakarta in 2004. He started learning piano at the age of seven under the guidance of Oerip Santoso. Oerip Santoso was named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France for his achievement in music.

Michael has played in the concerts or piano competitions in several countries, such as Indonesia, Singapore, Hongkong, Japan, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Germany. He has won more than 25 prizes in piano competitions and attended masterclasses with Pascal Roge, Diego Caetano, Jean Louis Haguenauer, Ananda Sukarlan, Nicollo Ronchi, Jairo Geronymo, Debora Martin and also Jana & Debashish Chaudhauri.

In 2018, he won La Pianista piano competition in Singapore and got the scholarship to attend some master classes in Europe. He has the opportunity to meet and play for Petrof’s family at Petrof museum in Czech Republic.

Recently named the overall prize winner of Rossal International Piano Competition as well as winners of both Avila International Music Festival and WPTA Finland, Michael was also the top 6 at Napolinova World Piano Competition Italy and a finalist of Chopin Piano Competition in Asia - Japan. In Indonesia he has won multiple awards in prestigious competitions, such as Ananda Sukarlan Award, Indonesia Steinway Young Pianist Competition Jakarta, Essex Piano Competition, Jakarta Conservatory of Music Competition and many more.

In 2020, Michael also won a prize for his own composition in Singapore Piano Competition. His composition was title If La La Land Was Made In Bali, based on La La Land original sound track and Balinese traditional music.
