Chanya Bayla Somboonvechakarn

CHANYA BAYLA SOMBOONVECHAKARN is Thai-Indonesian and was born in July 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. Bayla started learning piano at the age of three and half years old at local music school in Bangkok. She has been under tutelage of Ms Irina Novikova since 2016. At the age of 6, Bayla performed her debut as a Concerto Soloist with Sunrise String Orchestra at Chulalongkorn University Music Hall, performing Berkovich Concerto Op. 44 No. 2. She enjoyed traveling and has been participating in various Music Festivals/Competitions and performed in many gala concerts in music halls around the world, such as Moscow-Russia, Osaka-Japan, Hongkong, Rome-Italy, New York-USA, Singapore and Bangkok-Thailand. Bayla finished her ABRSM Grade 8 Piano with Distinction on her 9th birthday.

Some of her achievements include:

  • Platinum Prize at 1st Young Concert Artist Piano Competition 2021 organized by WPTA Thailand (category 9-10 years old)

  • Grand Prix award from Northern Light Piano Competition in concerto category, Sweden

  • Absolute First Prize and scholarship winner, the 8th International Piano Competition “Città di San Donà di Piave”, Category A, Italy

  • First Prize and scholarship winner, VI Marbella International Music Competition 2021 - Rising Stars Category Division A, Spain

  • First Prize, ISTRA Star 2021 - VII International Music, Dance, and Fine Art summer Competition, category 10 years and under, Slovenia

  • First Prize, III Danubia Talents Liszt International Music Competition, Category A, Hungary

  • Golden Hand Award, Carles and Sofia International Piano Competition 2021, Category A, Spain

  • First Prize, 2nd Young Stars International Piano Competition in two categories: age group 6-8 category and Concerto category, USA

  • First Prize, VII Windsor International Piano Competition, Category A, UK. Laureate and First Prize at VII Slobomir International Piano Competition, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Laureate and First Prize at VIII International Piano Competition Smeredevo, Serbia

  • Platinum Prize in Children A at 1st Bangkok Classical Music Festival

  • Special Young Talent Prize in Junior category (12 and under) at 2020 Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition in Moscow, Russia

  • Second Prize in Professional category - Young Musician II (9-10years old) at 2021 Chicago International Music Competition

  • Second Prize in Category A at Kawai ASEAN Piano Competition, Thailand

  • Second Prize in Category Pretty at The 23rd Japan Piara Piano Competition, Hamamatsu, Japan

Seeking to improve her musical skills, she has joined various masterclasses conducted by professors and renowned pianists around the world, such as Professor Armen Babakhanian, Mr. Congyu Wang, and Mr. Adam Gyorgy. In 2019, she attended Adam Gyorgy Castle Academy and had the chance to perform as concerto soloist with Budafok Dohnanyi Orchestra in Budapest, Hungary.

Bayla’s passion for music expands beyond just the piano to also violin and voice. Bayla is an active member of string orchestra in her school. She enjoys sharing her love for music with others. On top of her music achievements, Bayla is also a capable young mathematician and takes a curious interest in English literature. Her passion for music, art, and literature bolsters her confidence in achieving higher excellence in her social life and academia.
