2023 Radda Rise International Piano Competition

Baohan Hou

3rd Prize of Category 2

Hello, I'm Baohan Hou and I've been playing the piano for roughly 7 years now. However, other than playing piano, I also find pleasure in many other hobbies such as playing the violin, competing in math competitions, and playing hockey. With the violin, I was accepted to DYSO last year, which was my school district's orchestra. I found it as a contrast to playing piano because rather than playing and practicing individually, I could rehearse and perform as a group. I also developed an interest towards math competitions. In the previous year, I participated in Mathcounts, which is a national middle school math competition spanning 4 rounds from school to national. I pushed myself and went through hundreds of problems, which had led me into the state round and gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. Lastly, in the past year or two I picked up hockey and I've been playing it ever since. Hockey is a fast-paced, team sport which has trained my reflexes and cooperation. All in all, these are some of my major hobbies I'm especially fond of.

Ballade in A-Flat Major, Op. 47 by Frederic Chopin
