Taian Yan

Second Prize Winner of Category 3

Violin and Viola Division

 

Chinese violinist Taian Yan is 16 years old and has been studying violin since the age of 9. He is currently a student at the Tianjin Juilliard School’s Pre-College Program under the tutelage of Weigang Li, the first violinist of the Shanghai Quartet.

Guided by his passion for music and his belief that it is the language of the world, Taian has had many special opportunities to share his performances throughout China and abroad. He has taken the stage as a soloist at the Salzburg Mozarteum University in Austria where he performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor. He also performed Tchaikovsky’s Serenade with the Shanghai Quartet as well as the Tianjin Juilliard String Orchestra.

In previous years, Taian attended the University Mozarteum Salzburg International Summer Academy, where he studied intensively with renowned musicians such as Paul Roczek (University Mozarteum Salzburg), Michael Vaiman (Kologne Conservatory in Germany), Wei He (violinist and dean of Tianjin Juilliard), and Ke Yin (Singapore).

Aside from violin, Taian enjoys spending his time traveling, swimming, and playing badminton. He’s also been involved with his school’s journalism program as a host and journalist for many years, and he had the chance to be a host on the Guangdong TV Station. In the future, Taian wants to continue perfecting his craft as a musician and be able to touch the lives of people around the world with his music.
