Sihan Chen

Second Prize Winner of Category 3

Cello and Double Bass Division

 

17-year-old cellist Sihan Chen grew up in Shanghai, China and began studying cello when she was 5 years old under the instruction of Chen Ying. She continued her studies with Yijun Shen from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music as well as Yan Tang from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music. Sihan currently studies with Yi Xin who is the assistant director of Xinghai Conservatory of Music’s Precollege Orchestra Department. 

Sihan is an accomplished collaborative and solo cellist. In 2013, she was a member of the Guangzhou Children’s Palace National Orchestra, won the Bronze Prize for intermediate cello in the First Guangdong Province String Competition, and was awarded 2nd Prize in the First Kodai Zoltan International Youth Instrumental Competition. The following year, she performed with the famous Amber Quartet. Additionally, Sihan was awarded the Gold Prize for open intermediate cello at the Second Guangdong Province String Competition in 2015 as well the Bronze Prize for open advanced cello in the Third Guangdong Province String Competition. 

In 2020, Sihan was accepted into the Xinghai Conservatory of Music Precollege Program with excellent marks and is currently the assistant principal cellist of its orchestra. In July 2021, she was invited to participate in the Zhuhai String Masterclass.
