Lucas Wang

First Prize Winner of Category 2

Violin and Viola Division

 

13-year-old violinist Lucas Wang grew up with a strong passion for music and began studying violin at the age of 6 under the tutelage of Sue Mann. He currently studies with Amy Horman from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Berlin-based violinist Iskandar Widjaja. 

Lucas is an accomplished musician in both collaborative and solo settings. In 2017, Lucas performed with Magical Strings West in an extensive concert tour throughout Italy and Austria as well as the Chicago Orchestra Hall. Since 2019, Lucas has been an active performer in the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, he will join the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra in the fall of 2022. 

As a competitive soloist, Lucas has been awarded several prizes such as 1st prize in the 2021 U.S. International Open Music Competition and 2nd prize in both the Music Talent and Romantic Music categories of the American Prodigy Music Competition. As a result of his accomplishments, he will make his solo debut at Carnegie Hall in November 2022.
